Summary : As far as cheap robotic vacuum cleaners go, the Rotech Pro is one of the best. It’s a full cleaning system with a slew of extras that you wouldn’t expect such a cheap machine to have.
What initially caught our eye about the Rotech Pro was the very first review on the Amazon page. It’s titled “Great Product – 1/2 the cost of a Roomba, cleans quietly & easy to operate.”
After further inspection, we saw that it does indeed clean quietly, it is indeed easy to operate, and shockingly, it had almost all of the same features of a Roomba – and yet it was ½ (or even ⅓!) of the price of the latest model.
In this quick 5-minute review, we’ll go over the unit itself, including how it cleans and its special features. What’ll really get you interested is the customer reviews, though – we’ll highlight them at the bottom and link you to a page where you can see 25+ of them. If you want a decent machine and you’re on a budget, read on.
Brush, vacuum, disinfect, then mop
The Rotech Pro actually uses four different methods to clean your house. It’s not just a vacuum… it also dislodges dirt, disinfects the floor, and mops everything clean.
There are two brushes on the front of the machine. These turn incredibly quickly to give you a soft, but thorough clean of your floor.
The problem with brushes is that usually, they’re far too abrasive. Manufacturers compromise on power by making the brushes more firm. It sounds good in theory, but the result is a subpar clean and scuffed up floors.
With the Rotech Pro, you don’t have this problem. More power is generated so that a softer brush can be used for the same results.
It’s tough to get the suction on a vacuum right. We’ve all used those traditional vacuums that have a ton of suction power. Yes, it gets the job done, but it sounds like an entire industrial factory has entered your house.
But if you go on the flip side of that, your machine is pathetically quiet, and more importantly, it doesn’t pick up all of the dirt.
The noise level to power ratio on the Rotech Pro is, for lack of a better word, perfect. It’s loud enough to be able to clean, but it’s quiet enough so that it won’t annoy you.
This part is pretty interested – instead of relying solely on traditional cleaning methods, the Rotech Pro utilizes ultraviolet rays to literally zap bacteria and grime out of existence.
You won’t see any noticeable difference from this, but if you have allergies, the ultraviolet light can be helpful towards keeping them under control. It also kills bacteria that can make you sick.
Finally, a mop comes up the back of the unit.
This serves two purposes – perfect and shine. If any dust particles are left over, the microfiber cloth will absorb them, and after that, it’ll leave a nice, shiny coat on your floor. (But it won’t be slippery like if you were to wax it.)
Also included: a remote, a virtual wall, LCD display, filters, and pads
Despite its low price, you get a fair amount of accessories with your purchase of the base unit.
What’s the remote used for?
It’s pretty neat – if you want to manually control where your Rotech Pro goes, all you do is pick up the remote and point. If your unit is in the middle of cleaning, it will pause to address that area, then resume, and if it’s in its dock, it’ll address the area and then return to its station.
What’s the virtual wall used for?
Sometimes you’ll want your Rotech Pro to clean one area of a room, and not another. It’d be impossible (or very difficult) to physically block it off.
It’s easy to do with a virtual wall, though. You just stick it on any wall or corner, and it’ll send out two beams that tell the Rotech Pro to not enter that specific area. People usually use their virtual walls to block off the area they’re hanging out in – it’s annoying to have the Rotech Pro right next to you, even if it is quieter than the vast majority of robotic vacuum cleaners.
Why do I care about a LCD display?
It just makes things easier. Instead of having to meticulously cycle through buttons, you can set it right from the screen.
It also displays how much battery it has, how full the dust bin is, and how far through the cleaning it is (in percentages).
What type of filters do I get?
You get two HEPA filters included. These are the best of the best – in a nutshell, nothing will pass through these filters. Not dirt, not grime, and not even pet hair or dust.
How many pads do I get?
You get two microfiber cloths included. These will last you a couple of months. The only reason you’d need more is if you’re in a house that has a lot of dog hair – microfiber cloths attract pet hair like magnets attract other magnets.
Is it as good as the big boys?
No. On the $500+ robotic vacuum cleaners, you’ll see customer reviews averaging out to four stars or higher. Some have four and a half, and some even have five, even with hundreds of reviews under their belts.
However… as far as cheap robotic vacuum cleaners go, the Rotech Pro is one of the best. It’s a full cleaning system with a slew of extras that you wouldn’t expect such a cheap machine to have. It’s easy to operate, it cleans well… really, it’s your best bet unless you need perfection every time.
Overall, the unit has 27 reviews on Amazon – 16 of them are 5-star, but six of them are also 1-star. It’s worth taking a look at all of the different reviews before making your purchase. Someone who left a review probably has a similar house to yours.
