Summary : It’s like Goldilocks’ third bowl of porridge: just right. For just above $300, you can own your own personal housekeeper that will work for free, clean well, and never cause you any hassles.
The Neato XV Signature (not to be confused with the Signature Pro) is one of our favorite robot vacuums for one simple reason: it combines affordability with power.
It seems that today, there are basically two types of robot vacuums available: the cheap, mediocre ones, and the expensive, over-the-top ones. Not everyone is looking to cut corners or spend that much, though. If that sounds like you, pay attention to this review.
Below, we’ll go over the XV Signature’s features and what it does right. Then, we’ll summarize all of the reviews on it. Basically, we’ll lay out everything plainly and you can decide if you’re truly in that “middle” group – keep reading!
What it does right
Some of these features are pretty standard, whereas two of them – the last two – are exclusive to this model alone.
Scheduled times for cleaning
Let’s assume for a second that you had a housekeeper who you completely trusted. As in, you trusted her so much that you gave her a key to her house, and you let her come and vacuum at any time, even when you weren’t home.
When would you have her clean – while you’re there, or while you’re away?
You’d likely have her clean when you’re at work or doing errands. That way, you wouldn’t have to deal with the disruption in your house… things would just be clean.
You can mimic this “trustable housekeeper” with the Neato XV Signature. All you do is schedule it for certain times on certain days of the week, and it’ll run all by itself. You don’t even need to press the “on” button. All you have to do is clean the bin when it gets full, but most reviewers say that it can clean an entire house without needing to be emptied.
Ridiculously smart laser-guided navigation
Some other robot vacuums have this; some don’t. The vast majority of them will use lasers to determine where your walls are… and then clean in a seemingly random fashion.
This isn’t the fastest way to do things. The fastest way is by doing neat rows of cleaning like you’d do if you were vacuuming manually.
That’s exactly what the Neato XV Signature does. Instead of just mapping a room, it also takes that map and determines the best route to take. This ensures that your house is clean as fast as possible.
Special blade brush for rugs
Rugs are tricky… standard cleaning tools don’t work on them. If you’ve ever stained a carpet with wine or cranberry juice, you already know exactly what we’re talking about.
The blade brushes on the Neato XV Signature won’t clean wine stains – no robot vacuum will – but it’ll clean your rug of anything that’s not, well… rug. The blade brushes go deep into the fibers of your rug without damaging it, meaning that your rug looks like new once the XV Signature has gone over it.
A square base to clean edges
The unit being square means a more precise clean along the edges of furniture and along your walls. This is vital if you want a truly clean house, and not just a “pretty good” one.
This is such a simple concept… and yet, 75%+ of robot vacuum cleaners are circles. Sure, a circular design looks slightly sleeker… but Neato recognizes customers want an effective vacuum, and not a piece of artwork.
The most suction, period.
Neato makes a bold claim on the product page – the company claims that the Neato XV Signature has the most suction power compared to any other robot vacuum.
This is very useful for those of you with pets. Pet hair is wild… if it gets kicked up into the air, it’ll fly everywhere. Then, it’ll land on your chairs, tables, etc. You want to avoid this.
With superior suction from the XV Signature, everything is vacuumed straight into the bin. Nothing has the chance to escape… not dirt, not dust, and definitely not pet hair.
What others are saying
If you’re still dropping hundreds of dollars without reading product reviews, you might be getting a bad deal. After all, companies can make any claim that they want to… but if you read reviews of the product from people who have already purchased it, you can see if the product really lives up to the hype.
In the case of the Neato XV Signature, it does indeed live up to the hype. We’ll summarize the top reviews in bullet points below – if you’d like to read them in full, click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
- Pets don’t mind it for some reason
- More powerful than comparable Roomba models
- It sometimes gets tangled, but all robot vacuums do
- It’ll power through lighter objects (pillows, pet bowls, etc.) so make sure that your house is clean before you run it
- You have to charge the batteries overnight before using the unit, or else it’ll never hold a charge properly
- No problems navigating between rooms, even in larger houses
- If something does go wrong (like you forget to pick up a cord and it tries to vacuum it), the Neato XV Signature will turn off and require assistance – it won’t continue trying to vacuum and wreaking havoc like other models do.
