Summary : Neato Botvac 75 - What makes it good? Methodical cleaning, quick charge time, easy room-to-room navigation, it comes with two HEPA filters and updates itself.
Neato’s most popular line is its Botvac series, and in that series, there are three models – the 70e, the 75, and the 80. We’ll cover the 75 on this page – it’s not the cheapest, and not the most expensive… but rather, smack dab in the middle.
The price difference between the three isn’t enormous, but it is noticeable. It has quite a few benefits over the 70e, and it lacks one feature from the 80… but compensates by adding something else.
Yes, that was vague. Keep reading to understand what the heck we’re talking about.
What makes it good
These are the features that makes the Botvac 75 “pretty good”. We’ll cover them briefly, and then we’ll jump into what makes it exceptional.
Methodical cleaning + quick charge time
Out of all of the robotic vacuum manufacturers, Neato makes the quietest units. But still… a vacuum can only get so quiet. It’s not nearly as loud as a traditional vacuum; however, when it’s in the same room as you, it’ll be an annoyance, and when it’s in the adjacent room, it’ll disrupt your thoughts.
The name of the game is getting the job done in the least amount of time. This makes it so that you have a clean house all of the time… without listening to a machine, or, heaven forbid, doing the work yourself.
Other robotic vacuums don’t care about charge times, and on top of that, they clean in a random path. This means that it takes longer to clean, and it has to recharge more times than it would if it were going in a methodical fashion.
The recharging is no joke – most can run for 1-2 hours, but take 2-3 hours to charge. So if it takes even one extra recharge, the it’s now a lengthy process, and not a quick job.
The Botvac 75 takes another angle. It maps out your house, and then actually calculates how to get it done the quickest. This means less time cleaning and fewer recharge sessions. It’s a win-win.
Easy room-to-room navigation
If your robotic vacuum isn’t mapping your house correctly, it can miss certain areas, and even entire rooms. Not much to say here aside from the fact that the Neato Botvac 75 doesn’t have this problem… as long as you have a door open, it’ll peek inside and map it fully.
(If you don’t want it to clean certain rooms, just close the door. No extra accessories needed!)
XL dirt bin to make it easy on you
Robotic vacuums can’t empty themselves yet. You have to do it.
Emptying them over and over kind of defeats the purpose of having a robotic vacuum. Sure, it’ll do the work, but you’re still doing some work, and that’s what we want to avoid.
The XL dirt bin on the Botvac line means that you have to empty it less frequently. This often equates to emptying it just once after a cleaning session, or if your house is really messy, just once in the middle and once at the end.
What makes it great
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for – why choose this robotic vacuum over another one?
It avoids the small things
Take a look around your floors. Unless you just moved in yesterday, there are probably obstacles everywhere. Not just furniture, but also general untidiness… books on the floor, etc.
With other robotic vacuum cleaners, you have to make your floors spotless beforehand. If you don’t, that other cleaner might slam into it, injuring the unit or your item.
The Neato Botvac 75 doesn’t have this problem. It maps rooms with precision – if there’s any mess on the floor, it’ll navigate around it without a problem. Obviously it won’t clean under your obstacle, but it’ll do everything around it just fine.
It comes with two HEPA filters
HEPA filters are elite filters – they trap everything. No exceptions.
With this advanced technology comes a higher price tag. On other robotic vacuums, you’ll have to buy a new filter every two months or so, and you’ll have to tack another $30 – $40 onto your purchase price.
The Botvac 75 comes with two HEPA filters included, so you can (in essence) subtract the price of a HEPA filter from the purchase price.
Updates itself (whoa)
Consumer robotics are still relatively new. Sure, the Botvac 75 is pretty darn good… but without a doubt, Neato will be updating the technology constantly to make it faster and more precise.
If you went with another company, you might get a great unit to start, but as new models were released, you wouldn’t have the best of the best.
Neato does things differently. Its Botvac series automatically downloads updates for the software, so it’ll constantly get smarter as you use it.
What it lacks – a special brush
The only difference between the Botvac 75 and the Botvac 80 is the inclusion of a combo brush, which can attract pet hair without a problem.
If you have pet(s) that shed a lot, you might want to consider the Botvac 80. For the rest of you, save $50 on the purchase price, and then theoretically save another $30 to $40 because of the extra filter.
