Summary : Get this robot vacuum if you’re looking for a high-end unit that cleans with precision. Because of its advanced mapping system, your house will look sparkling clean from corner to corner without any “problem areas” being ignored.
To be completely honest, we’re surprised that the LG HOM-BOT isn’t more popular. It’s just about as expensive as other popular robotic vacuum cleaners, and yet it has features that they do not.
To clarify “just about as expensive”: this unit might seem like expensive… but if you consider how you’ll never need to vacuum yourself (or hire someone to do it) ever again, the price starts to look pretty good.
We do honest reviews. If something is bad about the unit, we bring it into the light so that potential customers (like yourself) aren’t hit with any surprises. The thing is, though, the HOM-BOT doesn’t really have any surprises.
It doesn’t have any surprises because…
It doesn’t have any surprises because LG studied other robot vacuum cleaners, and before they released this one, they made sure that the HOM-BOT had none of the downsides that the other ones did.
Instead of just listing features, we’re going to go over common problems with other robot vacuum cleaners, and then we’ll tell you how this unit addresses those problems to make them a non-issue.
Others sound like thunder
Not quite as loud… but they sound like traditional vacuum cleaners. Have you ever tried to talk on the phone or watch TV while someone is vacuuming in the same (or an adjacent) room?
It’s annoying, and not really doable. Add in the fact that robot vacuum cleaners inherently take longer to clean than a human would, and you have this annoyance for hours of your life every single week.
The HOM-BOT is essentially silent. This means that you can go about your day while it’s running… or you can even run it at night. Running it at night is a huge feature that others can’t match – it’s like a cleaning crew came into your house and made it look perfect for when you wake up.
Others are horrid at navigating
Most (if not all) robot vacuum cleaners can create a map of your house. The problem is that when it comes down to the fine lines, many of these cleaners fall short.
It takes an advanced navigation system to be able to fully clean right next to walls and furniture without smashing into either. The LG “dual eye” navigation system can do exactly this – you won’t have dust mites lining the walls and furniture like you might have with a cheaper model.
Others start fresh every time
The thinking behind “restarting” the mapping process every time is this: sometimes, people change how their furniture is arranged, so a new map every time will address these changes.
The problem is that most people don’t move their furniture around a whole lot. Do you? Probably not. So the LG HOM-BOT saves your house’s layout in its memory, and when it starts up, it simply calls the old map up.
And the map is constantly being improved upon. As it continues to run and complete cleaning cycles, the map will become so precise that the unit will be cleaning within a centimeter of walls and furniture.
But don’t worry – if you do rearrange a room, the HOM-BOT will detect that change. But it won’t remap your entire house – just that room. It’s efficient, plain and simple.
Others restart cleaning when they’re dead
This is a serious design flaw in most robot vacuum cleaners. When the unit starts to get low on battery, it will return to its charger to refuel. That’s good. The bad comes in when other units leave the charger… they restart the house completely. In order to get your entire house clean, you have to manually move the charging station around.
The LG HOM-BOT doesn’t do this. It just picks up where it left off. And with a run time of over an hour and a half, you can rest easy knowing that your house will be cleaned as quickly as possible.
Others make you pay for multiple rooms
Many companies release two versions of each robot vacuum they put out – one is able to go in between rooms, and one can only handle a single room at a time.
Seriously? That seems like a lame way to try and squeeze money out of consumers. LG doesn’t do this – the HOM-BOT can navigate your entire house as long as your doorways are 1.5cm or lower.
Others force you to use bags
We’ll let you in on a little secret. Without naming any names, we’ll say that many vacuum companies force you to use their specific bags. This means that you not only give them money for the unit itself… but you also end up giving them hundreds of dollars via bags in years down the line.
The HOM-BOT doesn’t have a bag. You just slide out the tray and empty it into any basket. The unit will beep when it’s close to full, so you don’t have to constantly check in on how it’s doing, either. (If only robot vacuums could empty themselves!)
HOM-BOT Review Summary: Bang For Your Buck
Usually, when you see a version of something that has more features than its competitors, you expect a higher price tag. But as we mentioned at the start of this review, the LG HOM-BOT is in the same range as its competition. Go figure.
Get this robot vacuum if you’re looking for a high-end unit that cleans with precision. Because of its advanced mapping system, your house will look sparkling clean from corner to corner without any “problem areas” being ignored. Sounds pretty good to us.
