Like something straight out of the future! The iRobot Roomba 620 Robot Vacuum Cleaner has a 95 percent success rate when cleaning. However, some people recommend that you use a manual vacuum cleaner to assist picking up the dust in the corners, but most robot vacuums are unable to operate independently without an assisting manual vacuum cleaner. However, the Roomba 620 makes a smart choice for busy people who are looking to save time. The ideal time to use this vacuum is while working, or when you are leaving the house because some people have complained that it can be a little loud, so it might not be the best machine to use during your leisure time. Nevertheless, many people still say that it is quieter than your average vacuum.

Pets can Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Your cat and dog will love you for buying the Roomba 620. iRobot Roomba 620Throughout the ages, the vacuum was the one common enemies that cats and dogs could unite against. Turn that bugger on and the cat would dart off under the bed, and old Rufus would go into a barking delirium. In most cases, your pets will not be scared of this vacuum. One user reported that his cat was just lying around the house when the vacuum came and bumped into it; instead of running for the nearest safe house, his cat showed not a care in the world, as the vacuum continued to pick up dust from the carpet.

The Roomba 620 Design an Improvement

When you take the Roomba 620 out of the box, one of the first things you recognize is that the vacuum has had an upgrade in style since its predecessor. The Roomba 620 sports a more rounded appearance, and you will notice that the machine’s circular design comes with cleaner lines that no longer have straight angles. The joints have been curved and every knob and button has been accented by a soft semi-circular border. The colorful finish gives you the impression that the Roomba 620 is slightly cartoonish. However, it is more modern than what you might expect, and it does a great job cleaning dust and direct from your tiles and carpet.

Features of the iRobot Roomba 620

The amount of technology jam-packed into this base model makes it an affordable and worthwhile machine to purchase. One of the core features includes an updated version of the iAdapt technology. iAdapt is iRobot’s system of software and sensors that allow your robot vacuum to learn the layout of rooms and clean your room during multiple passes, leading to a more extensive and thorough cleaning. It makes you feel like you suddenly dropped into the Star Wars universe, and you are interacting with one of R2D2’s distant relatives.

Another useful feature of the iRobot Roomba 620 is the Dirt Detect feature. This utilizes an acoustic sensor to locate the dirtier spots to spend a longer duration of time cleaning them. It uses a patented three-stage cleaning system that can be found on all the flagship Roomba vacuums. This technology means it will have no problems cleaning a variety of surfaces, including:

  • Carpet
  • Tile
  • Hardwood
  • Laminate

One of the things that separate the 600 series from the 500 series is that the 600 series has greater capabilities in handling pet fur, carpet fuzz and hair. The 500 series passes the torch on to the 600 series and picks up right where the past generation left off. One of the advantages of the 620 is that you still get the affordable pricing that the previous generation extended, but you receive the technological enhancements that the 500 series lacked. The 620 model includes automatic docking when finished cleaning. One of the cool things is if the battery is low, it will automatically go into docking mode. Not to mention, the battery lasts for a longer period of time than it did with previous models. Another feature would be step detection feature that gives the assurance that the Roomba 620 will not constantly be underfoot.iRobot Roomba 620

iRobot Roomba 620 Performance—Not too Shabby!

You can expect a few limitations to the performance of the 620. However, there is no doubt that this has been a massive step forward compared to the aging 500 series. When the 620 first starts mapping out your rooms, it can be a slow and tedious process, but it learns quick, and it catches every nook and cranny. Moms have always been known for asking children to clean under their bed, and the kids would never do this because they were scared of the monster that lives under their bed. Well, if only the iRobot Roomba had been around for past generation because this machine is not shy about cleaning under beds, tables and all furniture that it can get underneath.

Where the Roomba 620 Fails to Live Up to Expectation

One of the disadvantages you find with the 620 is that you have to start it manually to use it. Additionally, you have to buy the virtual walls or lighthouses separately. Virtual walls are automatic markers that keep the Roomba from crossing an invisible line. However, you can accomplish the same thing by closing doors. Some people say this machine works best when it does not have to clean a large area, and the iRobot Roomba 620 may also be a bit loud if you are trying to watch TV. Certain individuals said that it kept getting caught in cords despite claims that it was not supposed to. Although, the cord problem can be easily remedied by a little rearranging. What you find with most robot vacuum technology nowadays is that it is not yet advanced enough to have worked out all the bugs.

Battery, Don’t Fail Me Now!

One of the serious issues of previous models was their short battery life. iRobot does not make any claims about the battery life of this model; however, you can expect the 620 to last approximately 80 minutes on a single charge. That is fantastic considering it competes with the beloved Roomba 780, which saw a battery charge last up to 90 minutes. When you first purchase the 620, you have to charge it because it does comes discharged, and it takes an average of two hours to fully charge the battery.

How Long Does a Complete Cleaning Take?

For cleaning an average home of four rooms, you can expect it to take approximately 144 minutes. This, of course, does not include the charging of the battery.

The Other Robots are Jealous!

You might be wondering—how does the iRobot Roomba 620 compare to some of the other models? Well, if you were to compare it to the Neato XV-21 or the iRobot Roomba 780, one thing you realize is the lower price tag compared to these two other models. Despite the lower price, the Roomba 620 arguably cleans as well as both of these machines. Additionally, you save about $200. The one difference is that you do not receive the virtual walls, which individually cost approximately $50 a piece. Another advantage of the 620 is that the HEPA filter offers easier cleaning than what you get with the 700 series.

Does the iRobot Roomba 620 Make the Grade?

The iRobot Roomba 620 suffers from many of the same problems that other Roomba vacuums suffer. The most obvious is that they remain what is called bump bots. This has commonly been used as a derogatory term to categorize a robot vacuum that regularly bumps into objects while working out the environment. The multiple pass system may also seem completely illogical to the random observer. Keeping this in mind, you still have a hard time arguing with the finished results. The battery life competes with some of the best models like the 780.

The main point is you have to focus on loving this machine for what it is and make room for exceptions where it fails to live up to expectations. In competition with the 780, it lives up to the same cleaning efficiency. However, it did not remove as many hairs from the carpet as the 780, but the 620 operates at nearly the same level of quiet that the 780 is capable of doing. Even after purchasing the model 620 with the same accessories of the 630, you still save money on the 620, making it a cost-effective choice. Is the iRobot Roomba 620 Robot Vacuum Cleaner a smart-savings deal? Considering that it operates at nearly the same level as the 780 without the extra $200 price tag, it would certainly be worth buying for the extra savings.
