Looking for a top-of-the-line mopping robot that’s incredibly intelligent, easy to operate, and most importantly, completely silent? The 380t is your answer. Your floors can go from disgusting to sparkling in one single run without any hassles whatsoever.
It’s designed by iRobot, the leading manufacturer of cleaning robots. Of all its mopping machines, the 380t is the company’s most advanced offering.
Do we have your attention? We hope we do – every homeowner who’s serious about cleanliness should consider getting a Braava 380t. On this page, we’ll go over the specifics of the robot, as well as who should buy it and what it’s best used for.
“The background mopper”
No, iRobot doesn’t call it that. We came up with that name for one simple reason – you can use this mopper day in and day out and you will never get annoyed by it.
Many automated cleaners can run without human assistance, but with lesser models, you compromise on sound. Hearing an incessant whining throughout your day isn’t enjoyable – many times, it’s annoying, and it interrupts whatever activity you’re doing… watching TV, talking to someone, making a phone call, etc.
You won’t hear the Braava 380t, even if it’s right next to you. Your pets won’t hear it, either. For those of you with cats and dogs, you know that something foreign in the house can cause chaos – animals can even attack loud machines, causing them to break. That won’t happen with the Braava 380t.
Speaking of pet hair…
Say goodbye to it. The Braava 380t supports scheduling, which means you can set it to run each day at a certain time (or just a couple of times per week).
You know your pets better than we do. If you have five cats, then you’re probably going to want to have this running every day… or even multiple times a day. If you just have one golden retriever, you can probably get away with running it once or twice a week.
Once you figure out the “sweet spot”, you can have your pets and a hair-free home. Others will be jealous.
Let’s talk pads: changing & price
The unit works by utilizing both mopping and sweeping. The first step is getting the floor wet, and the second step is using the microfiber cloth to dry it off and pick up all debris at the same time. You can also choose just one mode to save on pad costs.
Changing the pads is very simple. Watch the video on Amazon – at the start, there’s a demonstration on how to do it.
As far as price – you get two of each pad (wet and dry) with your initial purchase. We’d recommend buying a few more along with those, just so you’re stocked up.
The specifics: charge time, square footage, and warranty
The Braava 380t takes two hours to charge. This is unique to the 380t. The 320 is the younger brother of the 380t, and it takes almost double that amount of time.
It can run for four hours if you’re dry mopping, and 2.5 hours if you’re wet mopping. This is a pretty significant amount of time – unless your house is exorbitantly large, the unit will be able to handle it without having to run back to home base to recharge.
The square footage coverage per pad is 1,000 feet for dry mopping (sweeping) and 350 feet for wet mopping. It’s important to note that the Braava 380t is able to detect where rugs are, and thus, it won’t mop on them. When you’re measuring the square footage of your rooms, make sure to subtract any surface area that you have rugs on.
More advantages over the Braava 320
The 320 is by no means a bad machine – in fact, we have a review of it right over here. But the 380t has a few features that it does not.
The 320 uses North Star Navigation – you set it on the ground and it does its thing in one single room.
The 380t uses North Star Navigation 2. Although there’s just a number tacked on to the end, it’s a completely different system.
You place cubes in each room that you want mopped, and it’ll seamlessly transition from room to room. With the 320, you have to manually pick it up and set it down in each new room. That’s not the end of the world, but it’s an inconvenience. The 380t requires no human intervention.
According to reviewers, the 320 has more of a “learning curve” as well. Whereas the 380t is plug and play, the 320 may require some babysitting for the first few runs.
The 380t also has the Pro Clean System, which is pretty easy to understand. There’s a well of cleaning solution inside, and the unit automatically detects when the pad it’s using is running low on liquid. If it is, the unit spritzes the pad. This gives you the best clean. The 320 doesn’t have this feature.
Who should get the Irobot Braava 380t?
If you mop frequently, are sick of doing so, and want to automate the process without any human intervention, then you should get the Braava 380t. It’s the best robot mopper on the market, and once you have it, you won’t have to get another one for years to come. The chore of mopping will be gone from your life.
If you want to save some money and don’t mind compromising on a few features, you’ll want to take a look at the Braava 320. It’s still a great machine – just not quite as great as the 380t.
